Rent-to-Own Terms
Last updated: September 15, 2026
Rent-to-own lets you pay for Diamond DAW monthly and end up owning it. It is not a subscription: the payments stop, and what you are left with is a permanent license rather than nothing. These terms explain exactly what happens at each point, including the parts that are not in your favour.
The plan
Eight monthly payments of $9.99, totalling $79.92. Buying outright costs $64.99, so rent-to-own costs $14.93 more in total. That difference is what it costs to spread the price out. Processing is a part of it, because eight smaller charges cost more to handle than one larger one, but it is the smaller part. Most of the difference is the cost of collecting over eight months instead of once: cards that expire or bounce, plans that stop part-way, and eight months before the sale is finally settled. The software is identical either way.
Worth being plain about: because the plan costs more in total, there is a point late on where you have paid more than the outright price and do not yet own it. After seven payments you have paid $69.93 against a $64.99 sticker, with $9.99 left. That is what paying monthly costs, and it is why the section below matters: your payments are never lost, and the balance is always a number you can see and settle.
What you get from the first payment
Everything. From payment one you hold a full license: every instrument, every effect, every export format, and the ability to open and re-open your projects. You have the software from the start rather than at the end of eight months. The license activates on up to three machines at a time, exactly as an outright license does.
Owning it
After your eighth successful payment, your license becomes permanent and billing stops automatically. You do not need to cancel anything, and you will not be charged again. If a payment is later refunded or reversed, it stops counting toward the eight.
Every payment counts, permanently
This is the part worth reading twice. Every payment you make is credit toward owning Diamond, and that credit never expires. It does not matter whether you pay six months in a row, stop after two and come back a year later, or pay off the balance in one go. Your account page always shows what you have paid and exactly what is left.
There is no point at which you have paid us money and hold nothing for it. If you stop, you are part-way to owning it, permanently, and the remaining balance is yours to settle whenever you want to.
Paying it off early
You can finish the plan at any time by paying the remaining balance in one charge (the total minus what you have already paid). Everything you have paid counts. After that payment your license becomes permanent immediately and the monthly billing stops.
After six payments you have paid $59.94 and owe $19.98 to finish; after seven you have paid $69.93 and owe $9.99. If you are close to the end and thinking of stopping, paying it off is almost always the better outcome for you than canceling.
Canceling
You can cancel at any time and you will not be charged again. Your license stays active until the end of the period you have already paid for.
Read this part carefully. After that period ends, you no longer hold a license, and Diamond returns to trial mode. Every feature still works there and you can save and export without limit, but you will not be able to re-open projects you have already saved until you hold a license again. Your files are not deleted and nothing is taken off your computer; you simply cannot load them back into Diamond.
Payments you have already made are not refunded when you cancel. You paid for the months you had the license, and you had it. This is the ordinary arrangement for rent-to-own, but it is the part people are most often surprised by, so it is stated here rather than buried.
Resuming later
If you cancel and come back, you start from where you stopped rather than from zero. Your completed payments are remembered against your account, and you resume owing only the payments that remain. Restarting a plan does not restart the count.
If a payment fails
Cards expire and payments bounce. If one fails, we will retry it and let you know. Your license is not switched off the moment a charge does not go through. If payment cannot be collected after repeated attempts, the plan is treated as canceled and the section above applies. Updating your payment details at any point resumes the plan where it stopped.
Refunds
The 30-day window in our Refund Policy applies to your first payment. Later payments in the plan are not individually refundable, for the reason given above: each one paid for a month in which you held the license. If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK, your statutory right of withdrawal applies to the start of the plan on the same terms as any other purchase, and that page explains how.
If a payment is refunded or charged back, it stops counting toward the eight, and a license already made permanent on the strength of a reversed payment may be withdrawn.
Price changes
The price of your plan is fixed when you start it. If the price of Diamond changes, your remaining payments do not. A plan you resume after canceling continues at its original price.
Who you are buying from
Your plan is sold by Polar Software Inc. ("Polar"), our merchant of record. Polar is the seller of record for the transaction: it takes each payment, issues the invoices, handles tax, and is what appears on your card statement. The license behind the plan is granted by Maksim Danilov, under the EULA.
Refunds are issued by Polar, on our authorisation. Billing questions can go to either of us, at support@diamond-daw.com.
These terms
These terms sit alongside our Terms of Service and the EULA, which governs use of the software itself. Where they disagree about rent-to-own specifically, this page applies. Governing law, and the consumer rights that survive it, are as set out in the Terms of Service. We will tell plan holders in advance of any change that affects an active plan.
